We all love to travel. But sometimes, traveling outside our general area is simply not possible. A great remedy for that is a staycation. For Staycations, a person generally stays at home and goes on day trips to nearby areas or just explores their own home town. Here are four great ideas for BOOSTING your staycation, no matter the size of your home town.

1. Go Geocaching.

Do you like the idea of Treasure Hunting? Geocaching is a global event where people hide and seek containers using a GPS system or other means of navigation. Once a container is found, inside are treasures, if you take one, you leave a treasure of your own.

Geocaching is a lot of fun and can be done anywhere. My "town" is a Dollar General type of town. You know what I mean. The Dollar General is the closest thing to a Wal-Mart that exists and aside from a few restaurants here and there and a tiny grocery store, Harps, there's not much else in town. I looked up the geochaches available in the area and there are six. IF my town has them, you can probably find them anywhere. So, pack a lunch and head out for an afternoon of discovery.

2. Scavenger Hunts

If you are familiar with an app called Groupon, it offers Scavenger Hunts and Wacky Walks packages. You will find these in most cities and towns in the United States. They are usually pretty general clues and can be done anywhere. Creating your own Scavenger Hunt is always another option. This requires a bit more planning on your part, but can give you the ability to personalize the hunt to your town specifically. Gather a handful of your people and explore.

3. Play Augmented Reality Mobile Games

There was a craze a few years ago with an online game called Pokemon Go! Pokemon is an anime where the main character catches creatures called Pokemon and then has them battle against other Pokemon. The way this online game worked is the person playing would go walking down their street and Pokemon characters would appear on their phones. The player then would attempt to catch them on the screen.

Pokemon, not really your style? Well there are tons of spin offs from that game. Two, which I have played are called Jurassic World and Wizards Unite. My husband and I are huge Potterheads and we had a blast playing the Wizards' game.

4. Have a Progressive Dinner

This one is the most fun with a group of people. If you live in a small town you simply drive from restaurant to restaurant and have a different course at each restaurant. You can begin with drinks or appetizers at one restaurant, have a salad or soup at the next restaurant, main course at the following place, and finish up the night with desert and drinks at a final location.

Some cities have tours called Pub Crawls or Progressive Dinners. The plus side of these tours is they are usually guided so you won't have to think about where to go next and what to enjoy. If you are interested, you should check your local area listings for a tour near you.

If you live in the country where there aren't options for restaurants you can still do a progressive dinner. Enlist the help of some friends and go from house to house to enjoy the delightful cuisines of your friends and neighbors. The lack of extra patrons, and the familiarity of friends and neighbors are bonuses to this option.

Using these strategies you will increase the fun and excitement of a staycation. You may like it so much you will do it on a regular basis.
