Disney World may be the "Happiest Place on Earth," but not here in the Ozarks. Here we have our own "happiest place" and it is called Silver Dollar City.  Silver Dollar City is a theme park near Branson, Missouri. It is designed to appear old-fashioned and time-worn.

I wanted to tell you the top five reasons why Silver Dollar City is a fabulous place to bring all those you love and hold most dear.

  1. Old-Fashioned Theme - Silver Dollar City is designed to appear as though it were from the 1880's. This is seen in every aspect of the park. From the buildings to the costumed citizens to the outdoor entertainment options. You truly feel as if you have been transported back in time.

2. The Shows - The city of Branson is well-known for its live entertainment options. Every show is great but tickets can run up vacation costs for your family, quick. BUT at Silver Dollar City, there are always live, entertainment options that are included within the cost of your admission. The shows are also great for the family members who are, shall we say, less enthusiastic about the roller coasters and other thrill rides in the park.

 3. The Artisans -  No matter when you visit the park during the year, or what time of day, you can always find one of the local artisans of Silver Dollar City working hard on their craft. Many of these artists use methods from the 1880s. It is such a privilege to watch these masters work. After watching them work, you can shop at one of the many stores and purchase that perfect piece for your own homes.

4. The Rides - Silver Dollar City has numerous options and experiences for rides. You want thrills, SDC's got em. You want a carnival experience for your children, no problem. What if you are  looking for something more interactive? SDC has that too! One such ride, which happens to be a favorite of mine is The Flooded  Mine, a target practice game. It is not a thriller ride, but it is a lot of fun and your kids will enjoy it.

5. The Food and Festivals - The favorite thing about the parks for me and definitely for my husband (who is a chef) would have to be the food. From the skillet meals, to the BBQ to the tator places, one is never too far from something tasty and delightful. During festivals, Silver Dollar City food services make a set of specialty dishes prepared just for the festival theme. There is a food tasting passport you can purchase for $35. This pass allows you to try a portion of the delicious food items specifically created for the festival.

Silver Dollar City has it all, great food, lively entertainment, thrilling rides, shopping, and excellent customer service. The atmosphere is always gentle and family friendly. If you are planning a trip to the Ozarks area, check out this marvelous little amusement park for a BIG experience and BIG impact on your family vacation!
